Edington Parish Council have put together a package to assist those members of the community who may be affected by the coronavirus. You should have received a letter from the Parish Council outlining what we are doing, this includes a request for volunteers and a phone number for anyone seeking help. We can provide assistance with shopping, collecting and delivering prescriptions, collecting newspapers (voucher holders only), dog walking etc. in line with the latest government advice on social distancing to keep everyone safe.

Parish Council News for October
It Is with sadness that we have learnt of the death of Gilbert Green. He was a valuable member of the council for many years and a well-respected Chairman. The village has lost a true gentleman. His knowledge of the natural world particularly trees and birds was extensive. He was always happy to support village projects never happier than clearing out the village pond or helping maintain village amenities.
Christmas; We will be putting a tree up again this year to add some Christmas cheer, but It is unlikely the Christmas lighting ceremony will be able to take place with current Covid 19 regulations. More details to follow.
Waste bins . The council is monitoring the bins around the village as emptying of some of them has been a little erratic. We are in the process of replacing those that are broken and lobbying the county council to replace the bin at the bottom of Inmead which has been removed. Please report any overflowing or broken bins to Chloe Watts cmaea@btinternet.com, or to Pauline at the post office. The bins are provided to reduce littering and placed to provide convenient sites to collect dog poo bags. Please use them and help keep our village looking great .
The Parish Steward is back on village duty. He is supplied by the county council and attends approximately a day a month. Please report village maintenance such as blocked drains and small potholes etc. to Emily Greening emilypepler@hotmail.com, to help her compile list of jobs for him to complete.

Corona virus the Edington Village Helpline can provide assistance with shopping, collecting prescriptions, dog walking and a listening and talking service along with many other things that we can find access too. If you need help please call 07933143021 , if we cannot help we will were possible find someone who can The Parish Council has received some donations to help villagers experiencing difficulty in these times, if you are struggling to purchase essential items or pay outstanding bills please contact the helpline Advise is currently changing rapidly so follow latest guidelines but washing hands social distancing wearing masks will help keep you and your family safe
Parking: “The Parish Council are aware of problems with people parking vehicles near the junction of Tinhead Road and Westbury Road creating a dangerous situation for road users and pedestrians. We have contacted Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire Council asking them to take action to remove the problem and we will continue to persue them until the matter is resolved. Please ensure that if you must park your vehicle on the highway that it does not cause an obstruction and a danger to other road users and pedestrians.”
Road Closure: 09th November 2020 , the following length of road shall be closed to all traffic in the interests of public safety to enable Wiltshire Council to carry out Carriageway Reactive Patching and associated works. Steeple Ashton Road(part), Edington; from outside the property know as Turnpike Cottage for approximately 90m in either direction. The closure and diversion route will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.. These works will commence on 09th November 2020 and are anticipated to be required for ONE DAY between the hours of 07:00 and 18:00.

Concern over dangerous parking at Tinhead Road junction Edington
The Edington Parish Council have contacted @WiltshirePolice on a number of occassions regarding the parking of vehicles at the junction of Tinhead Road causing a danger to road users, we are however still awaiting a reply. We have also contacted Wiltshire Council and are working with them to find a solution to the problem of parked vehicles in this area. The Parish Council will keep villagers informed of any developments.
EDINGTON ARTS
It is with great regret that Edington Arts has been forced to cancel the remaining three concerts of the 2020 season, in October, November and December. The combination of all the various Covid-related guidelines and regulations which need to be followed has made the rest of the season financially unviable.
However, the 2021 season is fixed, and the concert leaflet will be distributed during October and November. Organisers are very pleased with what will be an exciting and varied programme, which begins in March.

Edington Parish Council is committed to developing a strategy for ‘A Safer Edington’ to enable villagers to feel more confident when moving around the village. This will take the form of a number of initiatives in partnership with Wiltshire Council and also with other parish councils and Westbury Town Council about the whole of the B3098. UPDATE 10 July 2020 – Edington Community Speed Watch has resumed and in the first week four motorists have been reported for driving through the village in excess of 35mph.
UPDATE 18 April 2020 – Wiltshire Council have now painted the additional
lines along the side of the B3098 between Monastery Road and Longmans Close and along with this there are now 30mph roundels painted on the road in three locations. These additional markings will further reinforce to drivers that the road is narrow and that the speed limit is 30mph.
UPDATE 10 March 2020 – A Speed Indicator Device (SID) has now been set up near the farm shop and has already found some drivers exceeding the speed limit. In the first 72 hours of operation one driver was recorded passing through at 58.2 mph. The Parish Council are hoping to have Community Speed Watch up and running again in the near future as a further deterrent to individuals who have no regard to the safety of other road users.
UPDATE 24 January 2020 – Following a meeting of the Westbury Area Transport Group we have secured the funding for the positioning of “No HGV” signs around the village on the roads leading to Edington Station Yard, this will hopefully reduce significantly the damage to the bank in Monastery Road on the bend. Also at this meeting our bid to secure funding for the introduction of 20mph limit on many of the village roads was approved and this will now enable the Parish Council to work with Wiltshire Highways in introducing them within the next eighteen months as long it gets approval from Wiltshire Council.

Edington is situated on the northern escarpment of Salisbury Plain. It is an historically renowned village mentioned in the Domesday book and famous for being the location of the Battle of Edington in 878 AD between King Alfred and the Danes.Welcome to the Edington village website. We aim to provide both residents and visitors to the village with all of the information they may require.
The village contains a superb 14th Century Priory Church and the recently refurbished and renovated “Three Daggers” Public House as well as a number of picturesque houses. It is surrounded by very attractive countryside which offers an excellent variety of footpaths, many of which offer spectacular views from Salisbury Plain. The well-known Edington Music Festival is held annually in the Church., BBC television included a programme on the 50thanniversary of the Music Festival in its series “A Passion for Churches” which was transmitted on BBC2 in April 2006. Edington was the joint winner of the “Village of the Year” competition in 1999. The judges were particularly impressed with the community spirit as evidenced by the wide range of events and activities. Many of these have continued to the present day; these include The Jazz Festival, The Summer Ball, The Village Fair & Evening Party, and the Flower and Produce Show.
