Edington and District Gardening Club – May news

In May we had our AGM and were able to report a summary of the wonderful visits and speakers we had enjoyed in 2016. These included visits to Motttisfont Abbey, Sherbourne Castle and Stourhead as well as speakers on classic and rare bulbs, growing vegetables, Prior Park Gardens, architectural planting and unusual plants available to the British gardener. The wine and cheese to follow was welcomed by all!

We have some great trips planned for 2017, including Tyntesfield National Trust Garden on 9th June, Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants Nursery on 12th July and Barrington Court on the 9th August. We also have some really interesting speakers at our up and coming meetings, including Eric Jarret talking about Alpines on 1st June and on 6th July, local Quoins Vineyard are coming to talk about their work and to offer us tasters……..

For more information on these and our other events, please look at the Edington Village Website, or phone for further information.

This is a busy team for all of us in the garden but do try to find time to sit and enjoy it as well. Our gardeners and farmers are welcoming a little rain as I write; we hope for more during the next month (overnight preferably!)

We are all preparing for the Edington Fair (10th June) with its Wild West Theme. Look out for our plant stall. More details in future months too about our Edington & District Plant and Produce Show at 2.30 pm on Saturday September 9th. We welcome entries, it is great fun and the refreshments are excellent …see the website for full details.

In the meantime, we meet on the first Thursday of the month at Edington Parish Hall at 7.30 pm. Visitors are also welcome.
