WI October meeting

WI report for the October meeting

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

The October’s meeting speaker was Ted Lloyd-Jukes. Following a career in the army and applying for ‘proper’ jobs, he gained the position of Yeoman Usher at the Palace of Westminster. He delighted us with many tales including why he wore his 50th Anniversary Blue Peter badge. Ted found himself at very short notice acting as Black Rod, due to the sudden ill health of his predecessor. Throughout his career he was involved in the organisation together with his team overseeing visits to Westminster including The Pope and President Obama. He could have carried on a lot longer keeping us enthralled.

Do you know why Black Rod is in black? The position is still in mourning for Prince Albert.

Susan Zayman chaired the evening and informed us of various County events, old and new. The New skittle season is starting with 3 matches before Christmas. Lists were also available to sign up for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance visit and a Bell Tower visit to the Priory Church. Sarah Girt gave a report on the recent village walk. This was the final one for the year as the evenings are closing in. thanks go to Liz Pike and Anne Tottingham for arranging these – more next year!

At next month’s meeting on November 13th Trevor Pictor will head a pottery workshop, with a Christmas theme.

Don’t forget to bring along your wrapped gift for Green Lane.

Do come along and see what we do and meet other like minded ladies.
