WI news for January 2015

At our January meeting we were delighted to have a previous member re-join after having to take time out because of work commitments.

Our speaker was Terry Hudson, a keen local photographer. Terry gave us a glimpse into the art of creative digital photography; beautifully illustrated by some of his own images.  We learnt a little of the wide range of possibilities offered by modern software programmes and of the more personal and individual techniques involving lighting, positioning and movement amongst others. Terry answered questions from members and was thanked warmly for his talk and especially for having stood in at short notice in place of the advertised speaker.

Members then caught up on activities from before Christmas, including: the Wiltshire Federation Christmas Concert in Devizes, and two outings to Somerset. The latter had been organised to show support for some of the local businesses affected by the flooding last year. We heard of a trip to the Cider Distillery at Martock and one to the Shoe Museum at Street; both highly recommended and may be repeated for those unable to join us last year.

February will be our Annual Meeting when members will elect President and committee. All of our meetings are open to visitors who will be made very welcome. Our membership has a wide range of ages, careers, interests and activities and offers an opportunity to meet new people in a friendly and relaxed environment.
