March WI news

Life in Edington & Tinhead WI doesn’t really follow the traditional path of jam making, singing Jerusalem and baking that has been associated with membership of the WI.  We do on occasions turn our hands to making some wonderful cakes and scrumptious biscuits for the Village Fair but we are jolly adept at turning our hands to other things too.  Looking back on the past year has shown just how many different activities, events and campaigns we do get involved with ranging from outings to places like Arundells, Edward Heath’s home in Salisbury, learning how to drive more safely, being visited by a trainee guide dog, visiting the Poppy Factory in Richmond upon Thames, discovering wonderful walks in and around our villages.  We have even provided our very own choir to sing at the annual Wiltshire Federation WI Christmas event.  Our social campaigning has covered reducing food waste in supermarkets, as well as highlighting the very topical issues of ‘plastic soup’ in the oceans and helping to alleviate loneliness.

Our forthcoming programme is full of interesting speakers too on topics ranging from ‘hedgerow remedies’ to some hands on messy play with pottery making.  We will also be celebrating our 80th birthday in various ways throughout the year, culminating in a summer Garden Party so why not take some time out for yourself to come and listen to our speakers, find out about all the events and activities on offer and, if you really must, find out all about making jam too!
