Gardening Club News for June

Nineteen members enjoyed a practical session and talk from Jackie Haimes from Bratton Plant Centre on container growing. Although this was a new experience for Jackie, we enjoyed the relaxed session and learned a lot from the general questions and discussions.

A good peat free compost and growth granules should see the plants last throughout the summer, with watering of course! Have you tried wool pellets or lambs’ wool to keep those slugs away?

Put flowers in the veg patch too and make up containers to put around the garden in any gaps in the borders.

Thank you to the contributions for the Gardening Stall at the Jubilee fete, and thanks to the helpers. it was a lovely afternoon.

Our first outing this year will be on June 22nd to Beggars Knoll in Westbury, 7.00pm start.

Next month (July 7th) we will have our own Stephen Henning, talking on ‘Your Garden, a wildlife haven’

There is no meeting at the Parish Hall in August, we have our outing instead.

If you would like to come to Lytes Cary, Somerton, in August (10th) please contact Angeline 830458 or sign up at the next meeting (2.00pm start at Somerton) so numbers and transport can be finalised.

September 3rd is the Flower & Produce Show, schedules are on the web page and hard copies with Pauline at the Post Office.

We do hope groups (established or informal get togethers!) will enter for the Village Shield. There is also a new Young Adults Trophy for 16 and under as well as the under 11 classes, both are free entry.
