Gardening Club news for July

Edington & District Gardening Club – July meeting’s report

‘The Wiltshire Beekeeper’ kept our group entertained and gave lots of information on beekeeping and by products of this fascinating topic. There are many varieties of bees, the original English bee was black, the Continental bees are yellow. The queen bee will deteriorate each year over 1 – 4 years and will eventually be starved to death. Six eggs are kept for the next potential queen. The honey is harvested in August. Bee inspectors do cover the area of disease but it is advisable to join a beekeeping club or group for better understanding and information as there are no current laws around beekeeping. I can recommend the honey marmalade!
