A recital given by Rossano Sportiello, jazz pianist. Commencing at 7.30. p.m. there will be a short interval about 8.30. p.m., with refreshments. Tickets, priced £10, will shortly be available from Maggie Atterbury on 01380 830452. Blue Badge holders may book a place in the church car park.
Rossano Sportiello is Italian by birth but now lives in New York. He first came to the attention of a wider jazz audience in 2002 when he appeared at the Ascona Jazz Festival. The following year he featured at the Arbors Festival in Florida which really let the cat out of the bag. The master of Stride Piano had been Ralph Sutton, who sadly died in 2001. It was thought that no one could really “fill his shoes” but here was a young man, with great stage presence, who could not only emulate the style but was a good “band” pianist as well. The rest, as they say, is history, so it is really thrilling that he can visit Edington as part of his Spring Tour which includes The Norwich Jazz Party.
