Parish Council news – October 2014

Edington Parish Council News

We have received good news from Westbury Area Board. They will fund a hand rail from the Parish hall to the road. Hopefully this will be installed in the near future.

We have applied for matched funding to help us renew the swings in the playfield, which are showing signs of rot and will need replacing this winter to comply with safety standards. Any ideas to raise the remainder, this  is likely to be several thousand pounds , donations also welcome . The swings are probably the most used equipment in the playfields so we would like to replace them as soon as funds can be found.

Advance Notices

We will be erecting the Christmas tree on Saturday 13 December. As usual there will be a competition for the best tree decorations, the more we have the prettier the tree will be.   Lights will be turned on with carols and mulled cider on Sunday 14 final details next month

We have received information from county that faster broadband should be arriving at Devizes exchange, which includes Edington, in autumn2015.

EDINGTON’s  PHOTOGRAPHIC  ACHIVE

Edington Parish Council has purchased an external hard drive to store photographs of the village, villagers and events. All villagers are invited to donate photographs/digital photographs for the use of future generations. We are interested in collecting historical photographs of the village, plus compiling current scenes and activities. We would like photos to be taken on a regular basis showing the village throughout the year, these can be of events, people, buildings, wildlife etc. Anything that future generations may appreciate.

We are thinking of creating an annual calendar with the previous year’s photographs showing the village/activities or anything to do with Edington to raise money for the village. Any persons wanting to donate any images please contact tinheadsmithy@aol.com. Please also see the village website for more details.

SAFE PLACES

There are now some premises in Westbury that have signed up to safer places scheme.

The aim of the Safe Places project is to establish Safe Places across Wiltshire that provides a safe environment for people who may require some additional support when out and about in the community.

Safe Places are there to be used when people may feel in need of a little extra help or support for various reasons; for example, during times of anxiety, fear or distress. Examples could be if you feel upset or unwell. Lost your purse or wallet or perhaps forgotten which bus you need to catch.

Businesses and organisations who are part of the Safe Places project will display an A5 size round Safe Place sticker in their window to alert people that they are a ‘Safe Place’. The sticker is demonstrated at the top of this article. When a person uses a safe place they will be:

  • Listened to
  • Reassured
  • Supported
  • Offered time and a safe place to waitSafe place
