February WI news

EDINGTON & TINHEAD WI

NOTES FROM THE GENERAL MEETING HELD ON

TUESDAY 9 JANUARY 2018

We had hoped to start the New Year with some gentle exercise in the form of Chakra Dancing with Helly Doel. However, the day before, Helly succumbed to the dreaded bug that is prevalent at the moment (hope you are better Helly).  Quick thinking and a few phone calls from Liz Pike and we had a new speaker for the evening, Susan Waldron, who gave an excellent presentation on travelling the Kennet and Avon Canal by boat.  Susan and her husband, Terry, have traversed most of the canals in England in their trusty boat ’Kuna Matata’ and taken hundreds of photos along the way.  The presentation started with a map of the 3000 miles of inland waterways across England and then, starting in Reading, we were treated to some great slides documenting the very interesting journey to Bristol through some beautiful scenery, wonderful architecture and a lot of locks!  105 locks in all to be opened and closed along the way (mostly operated by herself), and considering the boat travels at 3 mph – an epic journey.  Our thanks to Susan for the presentation.

The next meeting on the 13th February will be the Annual Meeting with members voting in the committee and hearing all about preparations for our 80th birthday celebrations.
