Edington & District Gardening Club

A change from meeting in the Parish Hall, 19 members travelled to Downside Nursery at Westwood for the April meeting.

Several members had not been to this plantsman nursery, originally starting out in the 1960’s as a vegetable growing nursery. Once supermarkets became the norm for cheaper vegetable purchases Lorraine Young and her husband branched out into supplying plants to the trade, following on from her husband’s death 20 years ago, Lorraine and her son then decided to retail directly to the public, growing with the demand. Their wealth of knowledge is to the fore. Lorraine spoke briefly about different suitable climbers for varying positions and a little on container planting.

The nursery was full and filling up even more for the start of the seasonal rush, so after tea and biscuits we were able to wander and of course purchase the odd plant or two.

May 4th is our AGM, come along at 7.00pm and renew your membership, £8, and special offer £2 for the evening (half price!).

The speaker will be Chris Wilde from Trowbridge Garden Centre who will talk on ‘Everything Roses’ (pfs). There will also be the raffle.
