If anyone had entered Edington village Hall on Tuesday 8th March they would have found a row of WI ladies pummelling, pulling and squeezing a plastic bag containing something that resembled a lump of soggy wool!!  Laura Searle from Westbury had come along to organise us all with a Craft workshop making felt. Laura had brought along lots of varieties of sheep’s wool which we then wrapped in layers around a piece of foam.  The idea at the end was that we would all be making either a phone case or spectacle case.  Different coloured wool was on offer and there were some very nice designs and some not quite so good!   I think we were all wondering what the outcome of all this pummelling and squeezing would produce. The wool wrapped around the foam is put in a plastic bag and then hot water and soap is added to make it shrink. Then the fun began, it was very therapeutic a bit like kneading dough! A lot of the shrinkage would have to be continued at home and at the next meeting the finished product will be brought along – can’t wait to see the outcome.  It was certainly a different and enjoyable demonstration.

This was the first meeting for our new President and committee and we were all presented with a colourful printed programme for the coming year and as usual it contains a good variety of speakers and subjects. One of the members has been asked if they could be our official photographer and record some of our events such as the felt making. This was decided at our Pancake Race last month as it would have been fun to have had a photographic record of the frantic tossing of pancakes.

Two reports were given by members who had attended Wiltshire Federation Day outings. One event was a Mamma Mia Day where Jo Sercombe from Bath managed to get 140 ladies at the end of the day singing like ‘Abba’ (well nearly). It was a brilliant course and Jo is certainly the female answer to Gareth Malone. The other event attended was 50’s day which was also enjoyed very much, not that anyone there remembers the 50’s, or so they say!

On Wednesday 24th April there is a Weavers Group Meeting at Bratton Jubilee Hall where there will be a Craft Demonstration by various Group members. We are the hostesses for this event.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday 9th April at 7.30p.m.  This is definitely  the meeting for all you chocoholics as the ladies from Coco-Bella will be demonstrating Hand Crafted Chocolates, let’s hope there will be some sampling! Good meeting to start if you would like to join our W.I.
