Three solo musicians with individual international reputations joined forces in 2016 to create this trio of clarinet, viola and piano.  Pianist Ilona Timchenko (Russia), clarinettist Jean Johnson (USA) and violist Roeland Jagers (Netherlands) are also passionate chamber players, and their experience and insight from both their solo and ensemble careers have combined to create a trio which in its relatively short life has already carved out a significant reputation and garnered some terrific reviews, not least for their first CD released in 2018. (Gramophone Magazine’s review said their playing was “sincere, imaginative and as fresh as paint.”)

Mozart was the first composer to write for this rather unusual instrumental combination; the Kegelstatt Trio, K498, in 1786; although the repertoire is not huge, many composers have followed his example, right up to the present day.   We are extremely honoured that Metamorphoses has asked Edington Arts if they might include the English Premier of a new piece they commissioned from the distinguished Dutch composer Theo Loevendie, who celebrates his 90th birthday this year. Of course we said yes!

We do not yet have a title for the new work, (only 10 minutes long), but the remainder of their programme takes in the Kegelstatt, of course, Russian elegies, Schumann and the best of the German Romantics.  It will be an amazing opportunity to hear the particular tonal picture of viola/clarinet/piano in the lovely acoustic of the Priory Church, played by three consummate musicians – an evening not to be missed.

Front Nave £20, Rear Nave £15, Sides £10. Edington Angels have a 10%discount, young people 18 and under come free.  Please add £2 per ticket if you buy on the door on the night.
